The "COOL SCIENCE at UCCS" event is a community wide street fair with a "STEM" twist, STEM being Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. This high energy adventure will provide hours of fun with exciting hands-on activities and workshops for all ages. This FREE event will provide intimidation-free opportunities to explore the joy of science and engineering.
The COOL SCIENCE organization is a local non-profit made up of enthusiastic scientists, engineers and educators with the goal of getting Pikes Peak area K-12 students, parents, and teachers to see science as "Cool".
This event is co-sponsored by the UCCS Center for STEM Education. It will be held at the UCCS University Center, 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway from 9am until 3pm. The day will be highlighted with two "Magic of Science" shows in the Science auditorium at 9am and 1pm.

This presentation's topic is "Healthy Weight Loss Strategies" by Kate Gracheck, M.A. This presentation will be held on Tuesday, November 10th at 6:00 PM in University Center room 116a. All students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend.

The Staff Council at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will begin the Holiday Service Project for 2009 on November 11th. This project is an opportunity for our campus to provide added enjoyment to the UCCS student, faculty and staff community during the holidays. There are several ways you may help.
Adopt-a-Family – Departments, individuals or clubs can “adopt” a family. A shopping list will be provided to assist you with your purchases.
Holidrop Boxes –With donated food items that you drop off in the boxes located around campus, we will provide ingredients to be used by each participating family to prepare a wonderful holiday dinner. Household products, nonperishable, non-expired food donations will be greatly appreciated.
Giving Trees –Individuals are welcome to take a gift tag from one of the decorated trees that are located in the University Center Lobby, Bookstore, University Hall, Main Hall, Dwire Hall and Columbine Hall and purchase a gift that the parent, child or entire family can enjoy.
$$Cash/Check Donations – Any size donation is appreciated. Secure cash donation boxes will be located in the following areas: ENT Credit Union in University Center, Bookstore, University Center Information Desk, Beth-El in University Hall, Parking Front Desk, Financial Aid, IT Help Desk in El Pomar Center, Jazzman’s, LAS Dean’s Office in Columbine, Library, and Dwire at the Coffee Cart. All monetary donations will be used to purchase gift cards, additional food and gifts. Checks can be made payable to UCCS Holiday Service Project.

Everyone is welcome to participate in our second annual Hunger Hunt benefiting the local Colorado Springs Care and Share food bank. Get your club or a group of friends together to make a team for competition. We will meet at the marble mountain lion in the Lower Plaza outside the University Center. Then, teams will have time to collect as many food items as possible for points. The winners will get their names put on the trophy!

The Student Health Center at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will have a free walk-in clinic for UCCS students interested in receiving an H1N1 vaccination.
From 9 - 11 a.m. Nov. 18 at the University Center Gymnasium, Student Health Center employees, assisted by students and faculty from the Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, will conduct the flu shot clinic. The clinic is only available to students with current UCCS identification. No faculty, staff, or family members will be immunized.
About 1,000 doses of vaccine are available. The Student Health Centert previously conducted flu shot clinics with students who live in university housing and will conduct other clinics as the vaccine becomes available.
The Student Health Center will close during the flu shot clinic, according to Stephanie Hanenberg, director.
People under 24 years old are considered to be at high risk for the H1N1 virus and are encouraged to get the vaccination. Loose-fitting clothing that allows access for arms is recommended. Students are also encouraged to eat prior to the clinic. Students who are ill or showing signs of illness will not be vaccinated.

A memorial for former student Catherine Colbert of Salida will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Upper Lodge. She died Nov. 12 at her off-campus residence.
Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak offered condolences to friends, family and classmates. University Counseling services are available.
The memorial is being organized by friends.
